Life
Rant time:
Why does life have to be so hard? I'm not talking about my life, it's too plush as it is. But my Young Life kids. No, not my YL kids, just Kids. They've got it freakin' hard. It's like life takes a big dump on them.
I see my kids getting kicked out by their parents because of an argument. Kids addicted to drugs because it's their only source of happiness, kids addicted to alcohol because it makes them cool. I see kids at the smokers' pit sitting, back to the fence, head down, talking to no one... with hundreds of kids around. Some leaders interviewed a group of kids lately, and asked about the most popular new drug. The answer was Cocaine.
Jr. High students also said: Cocaine.
Driving home tonight I had the radio on. KBPI had a song on about banging some girl. Next. KALC had a song about smoking weed. Next. The next station was all about sex. Off.
Don't blame kids for their problems. They don't know any better. Morals are a product of what we've been taught and believe. Never been taught? Where are the morals gonna come from? And people generally lack that intrinsic quality to intuitively rise out of the pit, shining in all the dark.
Kids these days are under so much influence, I don't see how they don't all implode. The bullshit that they see in life is unbelievable. People seek happiness, and living from addiction to addiction takes life's wheel and pulls a u-turn
I'll go ahead and be vulnerable. It breaks my heart to see these kids digging their own holes, not knowing where they're going, being steered by some invisible force. I just pray that maybe they'll see a difference in Brandon, Emily, Shaun, Jason, Janelle, Paul, Kristin, Me. That they'll see something in us they want so bad, that they want in on the secret.
So here's a big upturned middle finger to you, satan. YL's pitching. Here comes a curveball. Hope you strike out.
